This is a checklist of furniture, bedding, and supplies needed when setting up a college dorm room.
If you are going to live on or near campus and not go for an online college degree, you would live in a dorm room. A dorm room is generally a small area. This college dorm room checklist provides a list of essentials to help you figure out what thing you really need to bring with you to college.
  • Dorm room bedding
For the college dorm room, choose sheets and blankets that can be washed easily and with all colors.
It is a good idea to take college dorm room bedding that can also be used at an outdoor ball game or taken to an outdoor event when the weather is cool or for laying on outside.
  • Pillow
  • Alarm clock
If the alarm clock has a radio, CD player, or mp3 player that is an added bonus. Consider one with headphone jacks, but make sure the alarm is able to work even if something is plugged into the jack.
  • Coffee pot or electric hot water pot
  • Lamp
The type of lamp depends on the furniture available. A small clip-on lamp can be angled in variety of directions and may be more versatile for the college dorm room.
  • Laptop computer and other electronics
  • Chair
College dorm room furniture needs to be comfortable for reading and able to be folded up for easy storage.
  • Dorm room accessories
  • Calendar
  • Mirror
  • Bulletin board and thumb tacks
An erasable white board is also handy for reminder notes.
  • Garbage can
A medium-sized garbage pail, with lid and deodorizer, will limit the amount of trips to the dumpster and help control smells in a college dorm room. Use plastic bags with pull-tie handles for liners to make disposing of garbage easier.
  • Dirty clothes bag
  • Storage containers
Both large and small clear plastic containers and baskets are helpful for storing things like snacks and school supplies.
  • Towels
College dorm rooms rarely have a towel service. Bring one or even two bath towels, face cloths, and maybe a small hand towel.
Dorm room shopping is easier with a checklist. Print this list to make sure you remember all the necessities.
